Frequently asked questions

Is Swatchly really free?

Yes. Every feature is free: unlimited colors per palette (up to 20), unlimited saved palettes, every export format, contrast and color-blindness tools, and dark mode. There is no paid plan, no ads and no sign-up.

How do I generate a color palette?

Open the generator and press the spacebar. Each press creates a new harmonious palette. Click the lock icon on any color you like and it will stay while the others change.

Which color harmonies can I use?

Auto, monochromatic, analogous, complementary, split-complementary, triadic, tetradic and square. Pick one in Settings. Generation runs in the perceptual OKLCH color space, so lightness and saturation stay balanced.

What export formats are supported?

PNG, SVG, PDF, Adobe Swatch Exchange (ASE), CSS variables (HEX, RGB or HSL), SCSS, Tailwind CSS v3 and v4 (with 50–950 shade scales), JSON, CSV, XML, a JavaScript array or object, a shareable link and an embeddable iframe.

Do I need an account to save palettes?

No. Palettes are saved privately in your browser. You can save as many as you like.

Can I check if my palette is accessible?

Yes. The contrast panel scores every color pair against WCAG 2.x and can fix low-contrast pairs automatically. The color blindness panel previews your palette for 8 types of color vision deficiency.

Can I use the palettes commercially?

Yes. Colors cannot be owned, and palettes you create with Swatchly are yours to use in any personal or commercial project without attribution.

Why is Swatchly so fast?

The color engine is written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly, so generation, conversion and exports run instantly on your device. Pages are served from Cloudflare's global edge network.
